The Science of Sleep: A Knitter’s Review

Figure 76 shows a possibly handknit movie sweater. It rocked. This was the first movie I’ve seen which glamorizes crafting, and only the second that glamorizes stashing[1]. Since I couldn’t find a picture of heroine Stephanie’s kickass 6″x6″ stash cubicles, here’s a picture of her in a convincingly handknit sweater.

Figure 77 suggests that Pam’s mom is a liar. I am compelled to contrast this sweater with the So Obviously From Anthropologie sweater that Pam’s mom “handknit” for her in The (American) Office[2].

Anyway, The Science of Sleep would be my keystone pick for a knitting movie series. I was pretty much required to like the film by the time this line was uttered:

“I love Stephanie because she makes things with her hands. It’s as if her synapses were married to her fingers.”

***

1. Arguably, Harold and Maude is the granddaddy of stasher flicks.
2. Gotta credit Alison from The Blue Blog, who apparently beat me to The Office observation a long time ago. “Does her mother work in a factory for Anthropologie?” HAhaha!

You are sooo right about Science of Sleep. It is a great movie but it is made far far better by its glorification of knitting!

Also: Great work on that sweater pattern!!! I am looking around for a good yarn sub in my stash, I love the little details like the buttons on the cuff! Thanks!

The Science of Sleep was such a fabulous movie - my favorite part was when she would play the “piano” and knitting would come out based on what she played. The Gael Garcia Bernal eye candy didn’t hurt : ).
